Girls Basketball: Bonduel earns No. 1 seed for postseason

BONDUEL — After an impressive regular season, the Bonduel High School girls basketball was tabbed a No. 1 seed in Division 4 for the WIAA Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association released the girls basketball brackets on Sunday evening.

Bonduel’s top seed also comes with a bye. The Bears will await the winner of the regional quarterfinal between eighth-seeded Manawa and ninth-seeded Oconto.

Bonduel will host the regional semifinal on Friday Feb. 28, and if it wins, the regional final on Saturday, Feb. 29, too.

Menominee Indian is in the same regional pod. The Eagles are a No. 7 seed and will host 10th-seeded Coleman in a regional quarterfinal on Feb. 25.

The winner of the quarterfinal will advance to take on second-seeded Crandon on Feb. 28.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood was awarded a No. 3 seed in Division 3. The Chargers also get a bye into the regional semifinals.

Sixth-seeded Clintonville is a team that could advance to face Witt-Birn, but it must first defend home court and defeat No. 11 Tomahawk on Feb. 25.

Freedom is the No. 2 seed in that regional pod, while Wrightstown is the top seed.

Shawano is a No. 6 seed in Division 2. The Hawks will host 11th-seeded Antigo in a regional quarterfinal on Feb. 25.

The winner of the quarterfinal will travel to take on third-seeded New London on Feb. 28. Rhinelander is the No. 2 seed in that regional pod, while Hortonville is the No. 1 seed.

The Gresham girls earned the best seed of the four area teams out of the Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division. Gresham, Bowler, Tigerton and Marion all will compete in Division 5.

Gresham is a No. 8 seed and will host ninth-seeded Almond-Bancroft on Feb. 25. Should the Wildcats win that matchup, they would advance to take on top-seeded Newman Catholic.

Tigerton and Marion are also in that regional pod.

Tigerton is the No. 11 seed and will travel to take on sixth-seeded Rosholt on Feb. 25. Marion is the No. 15 seed and will travel to take on second-seeded Wild Rose on Feb. 25.

Bowler is the No. 12 seed in a regional pod that includes Oneida Nation (No. 1) and Gillett (No. 2).

The Panthers will travel to take on fifth-seeded Wabeno/Laona on Feb. 25.
