The Drovers will be performing once again as part of the Walls of Wittenberg summer concert series on Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 6-8 p.m.

Normally, the WOW summer concert series is held the second Tuesday of each month, but because of a scheduling conflict it was moved to the following week.

Due to the pandemic and the need to do social distancing, WOW has also moved the concert from the Art Park to Washington Park across from the Wittenberg Elementary and Middle School. The band will perform from the bandstand, and there will be ample room for the audience to spread out across the park lawn. Family groups are encouraged to congregate together but stay at least six feet away from the next group.

The Drovers have a playlist of hundreds of songs, ranging from all types of country to rock and roll over the years to polkas and waltzes. Definitely crowd driven, the Drovers never play from a pre-set playlist. They prefer to cater to the audience requests.

“We anticipate a good sized crowd for the Drovers,” said Meg Hartleben, concert coordinator, who encourages people to come down early to pick a spot.

As always, people are welcome to bring their own food, beverages and lawn chairs.

Chubby Cheeks, the ice cream van, will be on hand to sell novelty ice cream treats. The Wittenberg Lions will will have deep fried cheese curds for sale. WOW will provide free bottles of water.

The concert is free, thanks to the money earned through the performances of Crossroads Community Theatre, the performing arts arm of WOW. Donations are also accepted.

The Drovers have had the opportunity to support nationally recognized artists, including Tammy Wynette, Tex Ritter, Marty Stuart and The Bellamy Brothers. Band member Rob Wyman owns Rubbersoul Productions, which contracts with the national acts to perform at the Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School auditorium during the school year.
