Dolores M. Christensen

Dolores M. Christensen, 94, formerly of Pulaski, Gillett and Cecil, passed away on Saturday evening, Jan. 13, 2024, at Thornton Manor Nursing Care Center in Lansing, Iowa.

She was born at home on Sept. 9, 1929, in Oconto County, daughter of the late Oren and Helen (McEwing) Gilbertson. Dolores was baptized at a Lutheran parsonage in Shawano County on Oct. 26, 1931, and received her confirmation on June 25, 1944. She was a graduate of Gillett High School with the class of 1947. On Sept. 3, 1949, she married Vernon Christensen. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1972.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Valley. She was active in the WELCA quilting and serving at funeral dinners.

Dolores loved and cared for her family. She was a mother of eight children. She also enjoyed her flowers and gardening.

Dolores is survived by two children and their spouses, Jane (Russell) Herrmann, Ferryville, and Neal (Heidi) Christensen, Pulaski; a son-in-law, Stanley Zenk, Gillett; two daughters-in-law: Laure Christensen, Suring, and Joyce Christensen, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren, Dan Herrmann, Amy (Eric) Wieczorek, Cari Zenk, Craig Zenk, Joey Christensen, Carly (special friend, Ian Betancourt-Medrano) Christensen, Rebeca (Mike) Panetti, Anthony (Crystal) Christensen, Allison (Casey Blohm) Christensen, Abigail (Jordan) Napper, Walker Christensen, Rachael Van Ark, Nathan Van Ark, Rider Christensen and Mason Christensen; eight great-grandchildren, Samantha and Kali Wieczorek, Corey and Chase Christensen, Ezekial Betancourt-Medrano, Roman Napper, Elias and Nolan Panetti; one sister, Nancy Bahr; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marlene Christensen, Rochelle “Cookie” Christensen, Joe Ondik and Norman Christensen. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Helen Gilbertson; her husband, Vernon Christensen; six children: Debra Zenk, Larry Christensen, Allan Christensen, Todd Christensen, Kevin Christensen and Gail Christensen; one grandson, Cory Christensen; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Emerald (Pearl) Gilbertson, Loyal (June) Gilbertson, Mavis (Gordon) McMahon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elton (Dagmar) Christensen, Dorothy (Bob) Cornish, Marvin Christensen, Norma Ondik, and Tom Christensen and Ruby Christensen.

Visitation for Dolores will be at Bethel Lutheran Church, N6955 County Road BB, Green Valley, on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Officiating at the funeral service will be Pastor Keith Sorlie with burial to follow at the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church.
