Dairyland: Navarino tops Cecil in Bonduel tourney

Hofa Park shuts out Nichols in Sunday action

Hofa Park 5, Nichols 0

The Hofa Park Panthers defeated the Nichols Nitros 5-0.

Heinrich Walder got the win in the mound, throwing eight innings and allowing two hits. Mason Dorn and Brinton Anderson each had two hits in the contest. It was a well-played game with neither team committing an error.

Hofa Park will travel to Nichols on July 20 for a makeup game and then host the Pulaski Reds on July 21. Both games will start at 1:30 pm.

Hortonville 11, Cecil 5

The Cecil Mudhens lost to the Hortonville Stars 11-5 at Hortonville.

Cecil got on the board in the top of the first inning after successive hits by Isaac Boldt, Garrett Engel and Braden Uelmen. Noah Beilfuss hit a sacrifice fly, and Cole Anderson singled, each scoring one run to lead 2-0.

Hortonville answered with four runs of their own to take the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the first.

Cecil responded in the top of the third as Uelmen and Beilfuss singled and Grant Bouche followed suit to drive in Uelmen to make it 4-3.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the fourth when the Stars scored twice to make it 6-3.

Cecil again closed the gap in the fifth as Engel singled, and a fielder’s choice by Uelman advanced Engel to third. Engel scored two pitches later on a wild pitch to make it 6-4. The Mudhens scored one more in the seventh but couldn’t match the firepower of the Stars.

Colan Treml earned the win for Hortonville Stars. He allowed seven hits and three runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking none.

Anderson took the loss for Cecil Mudhens. He went three innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out none and walking three.

Cecil accumulated 11 hits in the game. Uelmen and Engel were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits while hitting back-to-back. Beilfuss collected two hits in three at bats.

Waupaca 5, Navarino 0

Waupaca jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back as they beat the Rangers 5-0.

Lakemen pitching was solid as Navarino’s first hit came in the sixth on a single by Ervin Stedjee. Mason Dingeldein and Dawson Schmidt also had hits.

Spencer Dauphinee picks up the loss, working 4 1/3 innings as Mike Nompleggi pitched the remaining 2/3 innings.

Navarino will host the Dairyland leading Hortonville Stars on July 19.

Bonduel Tournament

July 12

Navarino 8, Cecil 2

The Navarino Rangers topped Cecil 8-2 to win the Bonduel Broncos Tournament.

Scoring began with a 1-0 Cecil lead n the first inning. A walk to Ken Casper, a hit by Connor Schroeder and sacrifice fly by Braden Uelmen put Cecil on the board.

Navarino tied the game in the second on a ground ball by Mason Dingeldein that scored Anthony Tomczak.

Tomczak led off the fourth inning with a solo home run. Kyle Finger was then hit by a pitch, followed by singles from Bennett Schmidt and Mason Dingeldein. Spencer Dauphinee’s single scored Finger and Schmid,t extending the lead to 4-1. A James Mutchie sacrifice bunt set up an RBI ground out for Bailey Dingeldein making it 5-1 after four innings.

The Rangers continued the scoring in the fifth inning as Schmidt singled in Tomczak, followed by Dauphinee driving in Finger and Schmidt.

Cecil plated a run in the ninth for their second run of the game.

James Mutchie picked up the win, throwing six innings, allowing one run on three hits.

Crafty veteran Mike Dingeldein pitched the seventh and eighth innings, as Kyle Finger threw the ninth.

Noah Beilfuss took the loss for Cecil. He went 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out four and walking one.

Anthony Tomczak was named the tournament MVP going 5-for-7 with two home runs and a double while driving in four.

The Mudhens will travel to Hortonville Stars for their next game July 21.

Bonduel Tournament

July 10

Cecil 4, Nichols 3

Cecil advanced to the championship of the Bonduel Broncos Tournament with a 4-3 win over the Nichols Nitros.

Ken Casper led things off by sending the game’s first pitch over the left field fence to take an early 1-0 lead.

The game would remain that way until the fifth inning when Casper and Noah Beilfuss both singled, followed by an RBI single by Connor Schroeder to make it 2-0.

The Mudhens added two more in the top of the sixth on a Casper walk, Garrett Engel double, and a two-RBI single by Braden Uelmen to make it 4-0.

Nichols would not go away quietly as they scored three in the bottom half of the sixth on a three-run home run by Will Debruin.

Tucker Bouche was the winning pitcher, striking out 11 batters, allowing three hits and three runs over six innings while walking one. Jake Sager got the save, pitching the seventh inning, striking out two.

Javon Leisgang took the loss for Nichols Nitros. He went six innings, surrendering four runs on 13 hits, striking out four and walking one.

Noah Beilfuss led Cecil with three hits in four at bats. Isaac Boldt, Uelman and Casper each collected multiple hits.

Bonduel Tournament

July 10

Navarino 11, Shawano 9

Navarino’s last stop before the championship game was amnestying 11-9 win over Shawano.

Shawano began the game on a high note, scoring three runs before Navarino recorded an out.

The Rangers responded in the bottom half of the first as Kyle Finger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded followed by a Bennett Schmidt walk. Navarino took over the lead with a Finger single that scored Bailey Dingeldein and Ervin Stedjee in the second.

A big third inning pushed the Rangers’ lead to 9-3 as they scored five runs with two outs. Brock Smejkal led off with a hit and eventually scored on an error. Bailey Dingeldein singled home Mason Dingeldein as the inning was capped off on a three-run home run by Dawson Schmidt.

The Rangers added a 10th run in the fourth on a Smejkal solo bomb.

The Lobos fought back in the fifth, scoring a run and adding another in the sixth to make it 10-8.

Bennett Schmidt and Mason Dingeldein led off the bottom of the sixth with hits as Spencer Dauphinee walked to load the bases. An infield single by Joey Wagester extended Navarino’s lead to 11-8.

Shawano added a run in the seventh and threatened to tie the game as Dauphinee shut the door.

Bonduel Tournament

July 9

Navarino 8, Bonduel 0

The Rangers defeated the host Broncos 8-0 behind a one-hit shutout performance on the mound by Jacob Borchert.

Navarino started the scoring in the second on a pair of Bonduel errors for an early 1-0 lead.

The Rangers added to the total in the third as Bennett Schmidt and Kyle Finger singled, followed by a RBI double by Brock Smejkal. Anthony Tomczak then hit a three-run blast to make it 5-0. The rally continued on singles by James Mutchie and Mason Dingeldein. Borchert’s line drive plated Mutchie as Bennett Schmidt scored Mason Dingeldein on a base hit to extend the lead to 7-0.

A bases loaded RBI by Bailey Dingeldein in the sixth made the score 8-0.

In the other pool game, Nichols and Hofa Park played, but no results were made available.

Bonduel Tournament

July 8

Cecil 11, Hofa Park 7

Braden Uelman hit two home runs and drove in four as Cecil defeated the Hofa Park Panthers 11-7 in the opening round of the Bonduel Broncos Tournament.

Uelman homered in the first and seventh innings.

Cecil got on the board in the top of the first inning after Uelman homered to center field, scoring three runs, and Grant Bouche singled, scoring one run.

They extended their early lead with six runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Connor Schroeder, Cole Anderson and Jake Sager.

Uelman hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh.

Anderson earned the win for the Mudhens. He gave up eight hits and five runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking none.

Mike Delgado took the loss for the Panthers. He went one inning, surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits, striking out one and walking three.

Schroeder appeared in relief for Cecil.

Cecil piled up 16 hits in the game. Uelman, Sager, Garrett Engel, Noah Beilfuss and Schroeder each collected multiple hits.

Shawano defeated Bonduel in the other opening round game.
