Dairyland: Navarino outlasts Marinette in 7-5 win

The Navarino Rangers jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning against Marinette on July 7 in Dairyland League Baseball.

Bailey Dingeldein reached on an error followed by Ryan Boettcher getting hit by a pitch. Brett Krull’s bunt single would set up a two-RBI double for Kyle Finger.

Navarino scored two more runs on an error by Marinette. The Rangers added a run in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Boettcher.

Marinette scored a run in the fifth and then tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning.

Navarino responded as Boettcher singled in Joey Wagester in the top of the seventh.

The Rangers added an insurance run in the ninth after a sac bunt by Wagester and an RBI groundout by Bailey Dingeldein scoring Mason Dingeldein, who drew a lead off walk. Finger ended the day hitting 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. He also pitched four innings, allowed two hits, four earned runs, walked six and struck out four.

Spencer Dauphinee was the pitcher for the other five innings. He allowed three hits, one earned run, walked four and struck out four.

Hortonville 7, Nichols 2

The Hortonville Stars defeated the Nichols Nitros 7-2 on June 30 to improve their league record to 9-1 and overall record to 9-3.

The Nitros jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Stars responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the eighth inning to seal the deal.

Cage Kavanagh continued his excellence at the plate, pacing the Stars with four hits. Dan Wunderlich added two hits of his own including a big-time RBI double in the seventh inning.

Colan Treml and Mason Thiel combined for eight strikeouts on the mound while allowing five hits and one earned run. Treml went seven innings and picked up the win on the mound.

Hortonville amassed 11 hits in the game.

Cecil 5, Navarino 3

The Cecil Mudhens beat the Navarino Rangers 5-3 on June 30 to improve their record to 5-5 in Dairyland league play.

The Mudhens got on the board in the first inning after leadoff hitter Ken Casper walked and Garrett Engel singled to move Casper up one base. Braden Uelman walked to load the bases, and Connor Schroeder singled, scoring two runs.

Navarino scored in the fourth on an Adam Beilfuss RBI single, making it 2-1.

Cecil answered by having three runs cross the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-1. Engel hit a solo home run to left field to open the scoring. After an error and walk, Schroeder singled, scoring one. Two more successive walks plated another.

Navarino scored runs in the seventh and ninth innings to make things interesting.

Isaac Boldt earned the win for Mudhens. He surrendered five hits and one run over 5 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking two.

Spencer Dauphinee took the loss for Navarino. He went four innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking four. Jake Sager threw 3 2/3 innings in relief.

Schroeder, Engel and Boldt had two hits each for the Mudhens. Cecil was patient at the plate, accumulating eight walks in the game.

Little Falls 9, Navarino 3

The Loggers pounded out 14 hits en route to a 9-3 win over the Rangers.

Navarino led 3-2 after four innings as Bailey Dingeldein singled in the first run followed by Nathan Gramms driving home two in the fourth inning.

Little Falls added four runs in the fifth inning to recapture the lead and cruise to victory. Gramms and Adam Beilfuss had two hits for the Rangers.
