Dairyland League: Casper leads comeback for Mudhens

Win over Bonduel comes after shutout loss to Shawano

Cecil 7, Bonduel 5

The Cecil Mudhens trailed by four runs after the first inning but fought back to top the Bonduel Broncos 7-5 on July 21 at Joe Peterman Memorial Field.

Kenny Casper collected three hits in five at bats in the win. Casper doubled in the second, fifth and the eighth innings to lead the comeback.

The Mudhens tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to successive singles by Garrett Engel and Connor Schroeder along with a double by Casper, a sacrifice fly by Tucker Bouche and a wild pitch.

Cole Anderson and Grant Bouche singled in the seventh inning along with a wild pitch to give Cecil the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the inning.

Schroeder singled and Casper hit his third double of the day for an RBI to complete the comeback.

Hartman earned the win for Cecil. The reliever allowed no hits and no runs over three innings, striking out four and walking two.

Cade Johnson took the loss for Bonduel. The reliever went two innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.

Tucker Bouche started on the bump for Cecil. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and five runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking three.

Wyatt Reinke started for the Broncos. He allowed 12 hits and five runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking two.

Cecil tallied 16 hits in the game. Grant Bouche, Engel and Casper each collected three hits. Isaac Boldt, Anderson and Schroeder each collected multiple hits.

Hortonville 8, Navarino 0

Hortonville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the second inning and never looked back in its 8-0 shutout of Navarino.

Will Salaman led the charge on offense as he went 5-5 on the night with an RBI. Ty Dreier added two hits as well.

Chris Atwood and Colan Treml combined forces to strike out 14 batters and held the Rangers to no runs. Atwood started the game, going six innings, and Treml went in for relief for the final three innings.

Hortonville improved to 12-1 in league play at 12-3 overall.

Navarino’s five errors allowed five unearned runs in the contest as the Rangers only had three hits on the night. Navarino’s league record dropped to 8-5.

Shawano 10, Cecil 0

The Shawano Lobos bested the Mudhens by a score of 10-0.

Winning pitcher Bryce Popp kept the Mudhens in check for most of the game only allowing five hits, striking out six and walking none in a complete game effort.

Noah Beilfuss took the loss for Cecil, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five in 5 1/3 innings.

Garrett Engel had two hits for Cecil.
