Dairyland League: Cecil tops Marinette in home game

Cecil 10, Marinette 2

The Cecil Mudhens won 10-2 in a home game against visiting Marinette.

Marinette opened the scoring with the help of two walks, a pair of wild pitches and a single by Keagon Monroe that put Marinette on the board in the top of the first.

Cecil answered in the bottom of the first after Cole Anderson walked, Ken Casper reached on an error with two outs and Noah Beilfuss singled, scoring two runs. The inning continued when Braden Uelman doubled and Andrew and Connor Schroeder each drew a walk, scoring one run.

The score would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth when Casper led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Uelman singled, moving Casper to third. Uelman stole second, and Casper scored on a wild pitch soon after. Connor Schroeder singled to drive in Uelman to make it 5-1.

Marinette got one back in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Joey Olson.

Cecil answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning on four hits by Uelman, Tucker Bouche, Garrett Engel and Noah Beilfuss.

Anderson earned the win for the Mudhens. He allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over eight innings, striking out seven and walking four. Ashton Leleich took the loss for Marinette. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking five. Andrew Schroeder pitched one inning of shutout ball for Cecil in relief.

The Mudhens accumulated 10 hits. Uelman led Cecil with four hits in five at bats. Beilfuss had two hits with three RBIs.

Navarino 4, Pulaski 1

The Reds came up short 4-1 to Navarino.

Easton Vertz took the loss, going six innings and giving up the four runs (one earned).

Nichols 6, Shawano 3

The Nitros pulled off a 6-3 win over the Lobos in a back-and-forth game.

June 19

Hortonville 17, Cecil 0

Bats were on fire as the teams pounded out 19 hits in the Stars’ 17-0 win over the Mudhens.

Connor Roesler continued his heater, going 4-for-5 on the night with three RBIs and two doubles. Cage Kavanagh reached base four times and knocked in an RBI as well. Ty Dreier tacked on with a 3-for-5 night and three RBIs himself. Logan Grossman and Dan Wunderlich had multi-hit games, too.

Chris Atwood and Logan Locy combined powers on the mound to stymie Cecil batters, holding them to no runs and only five hits on the night. Atwood started and went four innings, while Locy went finished up the other three.

This game moved the Hortonville Dairyland League Baseball record to 8-1, remaining in first place. Overall, the Stars are 8-3.
