Cross-Country: Oconto Falls teams finish fifth at invitational

SHIOCTON — Behind strong finishes from Autumn Canavera and Joe Adams, the Oconto Falls High School cross-country teams each finished fifth in the Bonduel Invitational at the Navarino Nature Center on Tuesday.

Canavera, a senior, finished second in the girls race with a time of 21 minutes, 47.21 seconds. The Oconto Falls girls finished with a team score of 104.

“I think it was the girl in front of me that pushed me (to a strong finish),” said Canavera. “She had a really good pace going so I just tried to follow her.”

Adams, a sophomore, took fourth with a time of 18:16.52. The boys finished with a team score of 131.

“I’m feeling pretty good right now,” said Adams, who has turned in several strong finishes already this season. “I still have a long ways to go but with some practice I’ll keep improving, as will the team.”

Freshman Carleigh Kaczmarek (24:12.15) was the next finisher for the girls, placing 20th. Senior Ericka Havemeier (26:41.29), junior Autumn Magnin (26:42.15) and sophomore Jaden Reed (26:45.61) filled out the team score, taking 35th, 36th and 37th, respectively.

Senior Brendan Konitzer (19:19.01) and sophomore Isaac Raddatz (19:20.32) landed in the top 20 in the boys race for the Panthers, finishing 13th and 15th, respectively.

Junior Braden Uelmen (20:56.87) and freshman Landon Budz (23:21.69) rounded out the top-five finishers for Oconto Falls.

Lena also competed in the invitational, with the girls team placing seventh with a score of 208 and the boys placing 10th with a mark of 245.

Junior Kennedy Marquardt (27:57.37) and senior Alexis Misco (28:07.93) led the girls team with 46th- and 48th-place finishes, respectively.

Sophomore Megan Shallow (29:04.55), sophomore Samara VanArk (36:43.73) and senior Ciara Urbanek (38:27.66) rounded out the girls team.

Freshman Kadin Baxter (20:34.31) was the boys top finisher, taking 33rd. Sophomore Cody Dellise (20:46.71) wasn’t far behind, placing 35th.

Sophomore Norman Aguilar (22:13.5), freshman Reed Hosking (23:44.77) and sophomore Max Beyer (24:10.63) filled out the team.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s Abby Bartel won the girls race in 20:46.29, while Freedom won the team title with a mark of 54. Freedom also won the boys race with a team score of 56. Oconto’s Josh Woller was the top finisher, earning a time of 17:45.15.
