CLUB NOTES: Suring Area Historical Society

The Suring Area Historical Society held its July 19 meeting at the Suring Museum. The meeting was called to order by interim President Shannon Stoner at 6:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all 24 members and guests present. The secretary and treasurer reports were approved.

Balance in the account is $72,230.41. The brat fry profit July 19 for the ice cream/pie social with the Suring Area Library was $635.

We continue to work on the repair of the roof over the showcase windows. Dan Mast has been contacted, and he is to look at the roof and give us an estimate. Stoner has been working with Sure Dry to look at the foundation of the museum to see if they can do the repairs that we need.

It was decided to not have the museum open for viewing on Aug. 6 due to the road construction in Suring.

Our Sept. 2 brat fry will be held at the Suring Area Library along with the library book sale. If that works well for us, we will continue to have future brat/burger frys at the library. We are always looking for volunteers to help us out at our brat frys and open houses at the museum.

A motion was made to give Shannon Stoner $1,000 to purchase a computer and printer for the museum. We are thinking to get onto Past Perfect program.

Our speakers for the evening were Jay Merline, who has a full record of all the cheese factories in Oconto County over the years, and Eugene and Bruce Hischke, who have been former milk haulers for over 67 years.

Gilbert Thielke from Lakewood also gave us a lot of information on connection to the Suring area.
