Charles Hoernke
Charles “Charlie” Hoernke, age 83, of Clintonville, passed away June 3, 2024, at his home with family by his side, after a brief battle with cancer.
Charles Clarence Hoernke was born on Feb. 7, 1941, in Clintonville, son to the late Leo J. and Esther I. (Koehler) Hoernke.
Charlie grew up on the family farm in Clintonville. Throughout his life, he had a love for hunting and also enjoyed woodworking and spending time in the outdoors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to any project he had the skills for.
Charlie lived in Appleton and worked at Thilmany Paper Mill for over 30 years. After retiring, he eventually moved to Big Falls to get back to his small-town roots and then recently moved back to Clintonville, where his life began. Charlie was a very easy-going, kind and gracious person.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those he had connections with over the years.
Charlie is survived by his children, Chris (Aimee) Hoernke and Lori (Dave) Grunewald; grandchildren, Brooke Hoernke, Michael (Jessica) Grunewald and Adam (Brooke) Grunewald; great-grandchildren, Jameson and Amelia Grunewald. He is further survived by his sister, Charlotte Koeller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and LeRoy; brother-in-law, Milton Koeller; great-granddaughter, Natalie Grunewald.
Per Charlie’s wishes, no formal services will be held. His final resting place is within a niche at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
