Charles Arthur Herman “Chuck” Bruhn

Charles Arthur Herman “Chuck” Bruhn, age 81, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020, in Green Valley, Arizona, as a result of a heart attack.

Chuck was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Milwaukee, a son of the late Walter Bruhn Sr. and Marie (Hill) Bruhn. He attended UW-Madison and graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. On June 25, 1960, Chuck was united in marriage to the former Kathryn “Kathy” Wolk in Milwaukee. Chuck worked the majority of his life as a manager of both Kroger and Kohl’s grocery stores. His last job was in sales with PACQ Inc., selling promotional products.

Chuck and Kathy were charter members of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Racine, where he held executive positions, as well as Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. He and Kathy were also active members at Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, Arizona. Chuck was a member of Kiwanis, where he participated in and ran many of their events. He was a member of the Loon Lake Association and enjoyed boating around the lake with family and friends. He was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Chuck was a proponent of the “bonus donut” as many times as he could get away with it, and he enjoyed telling jokes. Chuck loved music. He played the bassoon as well as other instruments, and he sang in the church choir. His favorite song was “Fanfare of the Common Man” by Aaron Copland.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Kathy, of Shawano and Green Valley, Arizona; his daughter, Sue (Mike Kane) Bruhn of Bedford, Massachusetts, and their children, Noah of San Francisco, California, and Tyler of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his daughter Tammy (Robert) Merrill of Puyallup, Washington, and their daughter Kari of Los Angeles, California; his beloved nieces and nephews, Jane, Debbie, Mark, Bill, Carrie, Chris and Geoff; his godchildren; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Bruhn Jr., Lori Bentz and Lillian Dahnke.

A memorial service for Chuck will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at noon at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Scott Ludford will officiate. Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m. Masks will be required in accordance with the mask mandate issued by the state of Wisconsin, and social distancing will be encouraged.
