Chargers' Salvesen, Bears' O'Brien lead area runners at cross-country invitational

Bonduel girls team places 3rd

Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School freshman Rory Salvesen placed fourth overall at the Iola-Scandinavia T-Bird Invitational on Aug. 30 in Iola.

The Witt-Birn girls placed 12th as a team with a score of 291. Bonduel placed third with a mark of 118, while Suring was seventh with a score of 212. Marion and Menominee Indian also had individual girls runners in action.

In the boys race, Bonduel's Ben O'Brien had the top individual finish for an area runner, placing sixth. The Bears took 14th with a score of 334.

The Menominee Indian boys placed 11th with a mark of 267, while Witt-Birn was 13th with a 324. Gresham/Bowler and Marion also had individual runners competing.

Witt-Birn

Salvesen earned her fourth-place finish with a time of 20 minutes, 42.87 seconds.

Danica Tomson was second on the team, placing 60th in 26:10.25. Jayden Zeinert (28:14.31), Annika Resch (29:46.36) and Ava Hegewald (31:23.15) capped the team score, placing 80th, 98th and 115th, respectively.

Craig Wendel led a nine-runner boys team with a 61st-place finish in 21:00.45. Mason Meverden took 66th in 21:07.47.

Owen Schultz (21:14.19) placed 70th, Jonas Bushman (21:21.15) claimed 74th and Ian Salvesen (21:46.52) was 80th to cap the team score.

Bonduel

Mariah Wondra led a strong Bonduel girls team with a 12th-place finish in 21:43.88. Teagan Engel (22:34.18) wasn't far behind, taking 17th.

Ashlyn Kurey (23:22.17), Cierra Schnell (23:49.18) and Kendra Troxel (24:04.65) capped the team score, placing 26th, 31st and 33rd, respectively.

O'Brien led the boys team after taking sixth in 17:47.39.

Race Anvelink (20:30.77) came in 51st for the Bears. Griffin Uelmen (22:56.75), Ben Reisner (23:23.45) and Keaton Bahr (28:41.58) rounded out the team, claiming 103rd, 109th and 146th, respectively.

Menominee Indian

Isaiah Moss led the Menominee Indian boys team, placing 28th in 19:26.08. Lloyd Reevis finished 38th in 20:07.68.

Barron Waupoose (21:04.55) placed 64th, Maech Corn (21:13.91) took 69th and Francis Delabrau (22:37.21) was 98th to cap the five-runner team.

Two Menominee Indian girls ran in the invitational. Urijah Reevis placed 45th in 24:56.15, while Mariah Fish took 72nd in 27:30.66.

Suring

Olivia Noack led a six-runner Suring girls team with a 10th-place finish in 21:28.9.

Georgia Gerndt (24:30.97) claimed 36th, while Hailey Thomson (25:15.05) took 48th. Ginger Gerndt (27:00.98) and Samantha Seibert (28:28.53) capped the team score, finishing 65th and 82nd, respectively.

Marion

Jaden Stuhr led a trio of Marion boys runners, taking 84th in 21:57.99.

Jesse Trebus (24:40.67) and Jackson Krohn (28:15.97) placed 124th and 143rd, respectively.

Kelsey Zillmer was the only Marion girls runner in action, claiming 114th in 31:22.68.

Gresham/Bowler

Three Gresham/Bowler boys competed in the race, with Bryson Nelson leading the way. He placed 53rd in 20:32.24.

Kevin Miller (26:16) and Kobe Miller (31:20.73) finished 137th and 153rd, respectively.
