Careful monitoring of coronavirus is keeping WBSD safe

I hope this time of the year finds you all doing well. The fall season is definitely my favorite of the year. It’s just a great time to get outside, take advantage of the often nice weather and do some things with family that the other seasons typically don’t afford.

As I write this newsletter, we are entering our seventh week of the 2020-21 school year. It hasn’t been a traditional start, but I am thankful for our families and staff and their willingness to go the extra mile in supporting the district as we continue to combat the challenges the COVID-19 virus has presented.

Our substitute teachers have been incredible in covering classes as a result of staff vacancies. Additionally, our regular staff have stepped in across the district to cover classrooms and ensure we have instruction for all students at all levels.

Into the second week of October, the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District has recorded nine positive cases of COVID-19 and quarantined 52 students and staff. We continue to be diligent in identifying close contacts to ensure conditions are as safe as possible for those attending. With the right measures in place, I believe that school is one of the safest places our children can be during this time.

The value of a quality education and positive school experience extends into growth and opportunities that build upon each other and will be impactful in so many different ways well beyond our students’ time at WB schools. We have to keep fighting for that.

Thanks for your continued support of our students and district!

Garrett Rogowski is the superintendent of the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District.
