Brewers select 2 players on 1st day of draft

The Milwaukee Brewers made two picks on the first day of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft on July 11, selecting Boston College outfielder Sal Frelick with the 15th overall pick in the first round and second baseman Tyler Black of Wright State University with the 33rd overall pick in competitive balance round A.

Frelick, 21, hit .359 with 6 home runs and 27 runs batted in 48 games as a junior at Boston College in 2021, earning All-ACC First Team and ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

He was named to the Baseball America All-America Third Team and was a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.

Black, 20, batted .383 with 13 homers and 59 RBI in 48 games during his sophomore season at Wright State in 2021.

He was named All-Horizon League First Team and a Third-Team All-American by Perfect Game, ABCA/Rawlings and D1Baseball.com after leading the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament.
