Kody Popelka finished in sixth place.

Taking seventh place were Dane Hodkiewicz, Carsen Herm and Connor Chelberg.

Dylan Gartner placed eighth.

Shawano 57, Menasha 17

Shawano downed Menasha 57-17 in a dual meet Jan. 18.

Shawano started at 150 pounds where Marcus Cicero lost a back-and-forth decision 9-5.

Carsen Herm earned a fall at 157 in 1:24, but Drew Chelberg lost a decision at 165 by a score of 3-1.

Mason Theis earned a fall in 1:49 at 175. At 190, Connor Chelberg kept the winning up with a fall in 5:20, at 215 Kaydin Campbell earned a fall in 1:56.

Unfortunately, the Hawks lost on injury time at 285.

At 106, Dylan Gartner came up with a 5-3 decision, Dane Hodkiewicz and Alex Montour both earned forfeits at 113 and 120, respectively.

At 126, Austin Stickney gave up a technical fall in 4:40. Owen Montour and Kody Popelka both earned forfeits at 132 and 138, respectively.

The last match of the night was at 144 where Drake Herm earned a fall in 1:11.

“It was a great night of wrestling,” Homan said. “Connor Chelberg had a really good win at 190. Connor just keeps working hard day after day. Every time he is in the practice room, he is working hard and continuing to learn new position and improve his technique. He was offensive on his feet tonight and controlling on top. It was a good complete match.

“Dylan Gartner also wrestled a great match, after going down 2-0, he battled back for an escape and then a takedown at the end of the first period to go up 3-2. He earned a reversal in the second and gave up an escape but rode his opponent out in the third period. He was in some good scrambles and kept working to stay in position. It was a well-wrestled, hard-fought match.”

The victory improved Shawano’s record to 4-0 in the conference and 11-4 overall.
