GILLETT — Gillett’s Logan Block ended his high school basketball career on a strong note, making the Marinette & Oconto Conference second team.

Block helped the Tigers win 10 games for the season. The team went 5-11 in M&O play for a sixth-place finish in the nine-team conference.

The senior big man averaged 14.5 points per conference game to pace Gillett. Block also averaged about 5 rebounds a game.

“It means a lot,” said Block of the honor. “This was a tough season with its ups and downs and so going from not being mentioned in past years to (second team) makes me feel good and proud.”

Gillett advanced to a regional semifinal before being eliminated from the postseason.

Lena

The Lena boys finished just 1-15 in conference play, but still had sophomore Max Beyer land on the all-conference second team.

“It’s an honor to be chosen along with the large number of talented players in the M&O Conference, especially with the competitive senior pool of players,” said Beyer. “I hope to continue to work hard to improve and grow as a teammate to Lena, since high school basketball seems to be getting more competitive.”

Beyer averaged over 16 points per game in conference action and was a constant threat from behind the 3-point line. The sophomore also averaged over 5 rebounds per contest.

Lena tied for eighth in the conference standings and was eliminated in a regional quarterfinal playoff matchup.

Suring

Suring finished fifth in the conference with an 8-8 mark against M&O teams.

Two Suring seniors were recognized by the conference, with Jayden Geniesse and Dequez Sepulveda each being named to the honorable mention team.

In conference play, Geniesse led the Eagles in scoring with 12.7 points per game. He also averaged 2.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

“To be completely honest, I was extremely grateful but disappointed at the same time,” said Geniesse. “I felt like I wasn’t awarded with what I worked for, but it is what it is I guess. Again, grateful for the award, but also disappointed knowing that this year’s team didn’t do as good as we could’ve.

“We were much better than we showed in some of our performances. Our goal was to become regional champions, but we fell short.”

Sepulveda averaged 9.2 points, a team-leading 7.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.5 steals per conference game.

“It means a lot to me, the reason being that I love the sport and to make the all-conference team means the world,” said Sepulveda.

The Eagles earned 11 wins overall and earned one playoff win before being eliminated in a regional semifinal.
