Bonduel girls cross-country team wins home invitational

Witt-Birn teams each finish 2nd

The trio of Kara Troxel, Ashlyn Kurey and Kalleigh Schroeder helped the Bonduel High School girls cross-country team win the Bonduel Invitational on Tuesday in Bonduel.

The three runners placed inside the top five to power the team to a score of 17.

Troxel finished second with a time of 21:56.2. Kurey and Schroeder weren’t far behind, placing third and fourth in 22:19.6 and 22:46.7, respectively.

Breanna Schnell (23:49.1) and Kendra Troxel (24:06.5) also earned top-10 finishes to round out the team score, taking ninth and 10th, respectively.

The Bonduel boys placed fifth, led by Jack Johnson’s eighth-place finish in 18:47.6. Cooper Uelmen took 18th in 19:39.9.

Ayden Dunst (20:19.3), Karter Schroeder (21:07.4) and Ben O’Brien (21:10.5) rounded out the team’s top five, finishing 27th, 33rd and 34th, respectively.

Both Wittenberg-Birnamwood teams placed second.

Jenna Stone (22:49.1) was the girls top finisher, taking fifth. Ruby Nowinsky (25:41) came in 11th, while Annika Resch (27:18.1) was 16th and Lauren Dombeck (28:00.8) 20th. Ava Wepner (31:31.1) rounded out the team score with a 28th-place finish.

The Witt-Birn boys top individual finish was also fifth place, accomplished by Tommy Bruski (18:11.7). Simon Schairer (19:13) and Craig Wendel (19:14.8) finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Wyatt Dickman (19:30.6) took 17th and Ian Resch (19:47.1) was 19th.

The Marion boys placed seventh, while the girls team didn’t qualify for a score.

Isaiah Gueths (20:18.5) led the boys team with a 26th-place finish. Jackson Krohn (24:48.6), Jesse Trebus (24:52), Myles Peterson (26:03.9) and Jack VanKooy (30:39.1) were the team’s other four runners, placing between 52nd and 65th.

Claire Dow (30:24.2) was the top Marion girl finisher, taking 24th. Kelsey Zillmer (30:33.2) was 25th, Nora Wiesman (31:10.7) finished 27th and Claire Brei (34:59.3) placed 35th.

Three Gresham/Bowler runners participated in the invitational. Bryson Nelson (23:00.6) and Zachary Young (24:21) placed 44th and 49th, respectively, for the boys. Maya Thiex (32:04.5) came in 29th for the girls.

Girls team scores: 1. Bonduel 17; 2. Wittenberg-Birnamwood 56; 3. Iola-Scandinavia 71.

Boys team scores: 1. Pacelli 28; 2. Wittenberg-Birnamwood 64; 3. Iola-Scandinavia 65; 4. Weyauwega-Fremont 107; 5. Bonduel 120; 6. Manawa 178; 7. Marion 216.
