For the 94th year Suring hosted a Labor Day parade on Sept. 5, as thousands of spectators lined Main Street for the annual highlight of the village’s four-day celebration.

It took 65 minutes for the lineup to march, walk and roll past Village Hall, from the veterans color guard to the float from Legends Bar and Grill that promoted the establishment’s Oct. 29 costume party. In between parade goers were treated to such attractions as a summertime visit from Santa Claus and the Red Raiders Marching Band from Pulaski High School.

A ceremony was held afterward to present awards to Lois Brazeau, a Labor Day Celebration Committee who was honored as Suring Citizen of the Year, and to parade marshal Callie Smith, who received the annual Senior Citizen Award.

The weekend featured tractor pulls, a demolition derby, a 5k run/walk, bean bag tournament, bingo, several musical bands, the Friends of the Library book sale, a variety of children’s activities, and the annual Suring High School All Class Reunion.

The Suring Fire Department again hosted a chili cook-off, which was won this year by Randy’s Place Bar and Grill, followed by Josh Anrdt and Dan McDermid.
