Bears win sectional title, advance to state tournament

After three playoff games each decided by a single run, Bonduel broke open the bats in the sectional championship game, defeating St. Mary Catholic 6-0 on June 4.

The win propels the Bears in the state tournament June 11 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium, Grand Chute, the home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, High-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The other three Division 3 state qualifiers are Aquinas, Cumberland and Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic.

All teams will be seeded the evening of June 5.

The No. 2 seed will play the No. 3 seed, while the No. 1 seed will play the No. 4 seed in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. June 11.

The winners of these two games will battle for the championship at noon June 13.

Bonduel 2, Auburndale 1

Earlier in the day and down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, senior Brodie Hartmann connected on a two-run single to left field to put the Bears in front of Auburndale.

A scoreless seventh inning from Auburndale moved the Bears to the sectional championship game.

Bonduel was the No. 1 seed in its grouping, while Auburndale was No. 6.

In the other sectional semifinal game, the No. 6 seed St. Mary Catholic Zephyrs defeated the No. 5 seed Algoma Wolves 7-3.

Gillett hosted the three sectional games.
