Basketball coaches pick Brooks for all-state team

Lena’s Eva Brooks has been named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 5 All-State Team.

Brooks led Lena (28-3) to a state runner-up finish in the program’s first state tournament appearance since 1991. The 6-1 forward averaged 19.8 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.7 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game for coach Tim Goldschmidt and the Wildcats. Brooks will enter her senior year with 1,153 career points. Lena has a 63-20 record over her first three seasons.

The WCBA all-state team is headlined by two-time selections Alana Durtschi of Albany/Monticello and Sarah Shaw of Assumption.

Durtschi led Albany/Monticello (27-3) to the Division 5 state championship. The 5-8 guard averaged 13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 3.1 steals per game for coach Derik Doescher and the Albany/Monticello co-op. Shaw led Assumption (26-3) to a sectional final and has helped the team to a 77-11 record in her first three seasons.

Other all-state selections were Hailee Bauer, junior, Lourdes Academy; Kylie Butler, sophomore, Argyle/Pecatonica; Sophia Coker, senior, Athens; Izabel Durst, sophomore, Barneveld; Marah Gruen, senior, Royall; Emmalee Mann, senior, Cochrane-Fountain City; Mackenzie Tarman, senior, Turtle Lake; and Jadeyn Zdroik, freshman, Pacelli.

Rylee Yaeger, a senior at Wabeno/Laona, received honorable mention.
