Senior leads Menominee Indian passing attack

KESHENA — The Menominee Indian High School football team needed a leader to emerge as the team made the transition back to 11-man football this fall. Senior Tiger Dixon has become that leader and helped the Eagles to a couple of wins already.

Dixon helped Menominee Indian get its season off to a strong start, throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns in a nonconference win over Living Word Lutheran that was stopped early in the fourth quarter.

After losses in week two and three, Dixon passed for 204 yards to help the Eagles roll to a conference win over Wild Rose in week four. Dixon also was credited with a receiving touchdown after having one of his passes batted back to him before maneuvering his way into the end zone.

“Tiger has become, without a doubt, the leader of this team,” said Menominee Indian coach Chris Clache. “He embraces the QB position. He holds himself accountable as well as others. And he adds a bit of swagger to the team, which is what we needed.”

Q: When did your interest in football begin?

A: When I was about 4 or 5 watching some of Brett Favre’s last year as a Packer. He had such a cannon and played with every last bit of strength in his body.

Q: What is your favorite part about the football season?

A: As a player, winning home games. As a fan, watching the Packers.

Q: How did you prepare for the football season?

A: Worked out all summer and I also stayed busy with summer basketball and baseball just stay in shape and keep some good endurance. Also started running this summer if I had the time.

Q: While most teams are making the switch to 8-man, your team went back to 11-man. What has that transition been like for you?

A: For me, it’s more fun, I was so used to 11-man at my old school in Shawano, so I think it helps my team a lot having an experienced guy back there to help lead the ship on offense.

Q: As a senior quarterback, you are looked to as a leader for the team. Talk about how you help lead the team.

A: I make sure everyone knows their role on the team and no one else’s is more important than the others. I make sure they know what to do on every play if they need a reminder. I rally them together when it feels like we’re about to start sinking. Lot of simple stuff but I just mainly make sure everyone does their job right because we gotta work together as one to win.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Menominee Indian football team?

A: Winning opening week this year against Living Word Lutheran. I’m pretty sure coach said that’s the first win on opening week in 10 years. It just felt so good to be apart of.

Q: What are you going to miss most about high school football?

A: Probably making big plays in front of my dad (Timothy Dixon). That’s what makes me happy. We dreamed of me being dominant on the field. Not saying I am, but I think a lot of people would back me up on that.

Q: Favorite TV show, movie and musical artist?

A: TV show — “QB1” because it shows you how hard it is to be a high school quarterback. Movie — “Lone Survivor” because those Navy SEALs fight for each other like brothers on there. Musical artist — Drake, because his music brings so many good vibes.

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: I love shoes and looking fresh.

Q: What’s the greatest piece of advice you have ever been told?

A: For sports, just to play every moment like it’s your last because you never when your last moment is.

Q: What are some things you hope to accomplish after graduating from high school?

A: I wanna get my business degree somewhere and then come back and help run family businesses. Maybe coach after I take care of all that first.
