Ag professionals invited to farm management update meeting

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Extension Division, is hosting a virtual farm management update meeting for agricultural professionals next week.

Feed costs account for roughly half of the dairy farm’s total expenses. Extreme weather events and excessive moisture have created forage challenges to varying degrees across eastern Wisconsin. It will be important to make decisions that are agronomically and economically sound, as markets and prices remain volatile due to the pandemic.

The meeting will take place in the form of a forage-focused webinar offered 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Presenters will discuss forage supply, demand, quality and pricing with an emphasis on financial aspects of the following topics:

• Making last alfalfa decisions — presented by Scott Reuss, Extension Marinette County

• Feed inventory/quality after corn silage harvest overview — Kevin Jarek, Extension Outagamie County

• Making decisions for 2021: Planting after corn silage harvest — Matt Akins, Animal & Dairy Science Department, UW-Madison Division of Extension

There is no registration fee, but participants must register by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Registration can be made online at https://go.wisc.edu/62av56. After submitting the online form, you will receive further details on how to connect to the webinar.
