6 football teams earn playoff spots
Six area high school football teams earned spots in the postseason. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association revealed brackets during a one-hour live program on Bally Sports Wisconsin on Oct. 15.
Pulaski, Shawano, Oconto Falls, Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Bonduel made the 11-player field, while the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy co-op was part of the 8-player field.
Pulaski is a No. 5 seed and will play in the Division 2 field. The Red Raiders will travel to take on No. 4 Marshfield at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.
A Pulaski win would either send the team to No. 1 River Falls or it would be hosting No. 8 La Crosse Central on Oct. 28.
Shawano got a No. 7 seed in Division 3. The Hawks will travel to No. 2 Mosinee at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.
With a win, Shawano would next travel to No. 3 Rice Lake or No. 6 Merrill on Oct. 28.
Oconto Falls also received a No. 7 seed, but in Division 4. The Panthers will open the postseason at No. 2 Freedom at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.
Oconto Falls would either travel to No. 3 Berlin or No. 6 Denmark on Oct. 28 if it won its first-round game.
Witt-Birn picked up a No. 3 seed in Division 5 and will be the lone area team hosting a game in level one of the postseason. The Chargers host No. 6 Kiel at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.
With a win, Witt-Birn would either host No. 7 Sturgeon Bay or head to No. 2 Kewaunee on Oct. 28.
Bonduel is a No. 6 seed in Division 6. The Bears open the postseason at No. 3 Crivitz at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.
A win would mean Bonduel either hosts No. 7 Weyauwega-Fremont or travels to No. 2 St. Mary’s Springs on Oct. 28.
Lena/STAA is a No. 4 seed in the 16-team field for 8-player football. The co-op will head to No. 1 Gibraltar at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21. Gibraltar is the only team that beat Lena/STAA during the regular season.
With a win, Lena/STAA would either head to No. 2 Florence or No. 3 Wabeno/Laona on Oct. 28.
