Chargers win regional crown

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 6, Amherst 1

Wittenberg-Birnamwood is the regional champion after defeating Amherst 6-1.

The No. 2 seeded Chargers will play at No. 1 seed Peshtigo on May 28 in the sectional semifinals.

Coleman 6, Bonduel 0

The Bears were shut out 6-0 in the regional final that ended their season.

Bonduel ended its regular season in fifth place in the Central Wisconsin East Conference with a 6-8 record. The team was 13-10 overall.

Mosinee 12, Shawano 4

Several area athletes to compete at state track meet

Sectionals at Hudson

Two relay teams and five individuals will represent Shawano at the state Division 1 track meet May 31 at UW-La Crosse.

At the sectional meet in Hudson, the girls 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams each won the gold.

The 4x800 team of Bailey Hendricks, Adalyn Barkley, Lily Guenther and Grace Chelberg set a new school record of 9:38.95.

The 4x400 team of Maci Beyer, Chelberg, Tela Hopfensperger and Barkley also set a new school record at 4:03.12.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 5, Clintonville 4

Wittenberg-Birnamwood defeated Clintonville 5-4 in WIAA regional action.

Almond-Bancroft 10, Tigerton 0

Tigerton’s softball season ended with a 10-0 loss to Almond-Bancroft in WIAA regional action.

The Tigers were seeded No. 7, and their hosts were No. 2.

Almond-Bancroft scored once in the first and third innings and then blew the game wide open with eight runs in the fourth inning.

Tigerton batters didn’t record a single hit.

Track and field athletes advance to sectionals

Division 1 Regional, D.C. Everest

Both the Shawano boys and girls track and field teams finished fifth in team scoring at the WIAA Division 1 regional meet hosted by D.C. Everest. Top finishers for the Hawks and advancing to sectionals at Hudson on May 23 were:

First place girls: Hatty Fritz, discus; Adalyn Barkley, triple jump, new school record at 34 feet 9 inches, Lily Guenther, 3,200; 4x800 relay team of Bailey Hendricks, Barkley, Guenther and Grace Chelberg (alternates, Maci Beyer and Emma Neilson).

Oconto Falls golf team advances to sectional round

Division 2 Amherst Regional

Oconto Falls golfers placed third and advanced to sectionals, with Wittenberg-Birnamwood in seventh and Menominee Indian/Gresham in ninth at Glacier Woods Golf Course in Iola.

Mosinee won the meet with a 318. Oconto Falls had a 349. Wittenberg-Birnamwood had a 367, and Menominee Indian/Gresham scored 495.

The Panthers were led by Kadyn Riel’s 78. He was joined by Carson McDermid with 88, Austin Anderson with 89 and Jackson McDonald with 94. Isaiah Hirst had a 97.

Shawano beats Clintonville

Shawano 13, Clintonville 4

Shawano had 10 hits and scored even more in a 13-4 win over Clintonville at home.

Carsen Herm led the Hawks, hitting 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.

Tom Keszo was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Shawano jumped out an early 6-1 lead after two innings. They maintained a 7-4 lead after six innings, and then scored six runs in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Four softball teams see end of their seasons

Clintonville 11, Menominee Indian 4

The Eagles saw their season come to an end with an 11-4 loss to Clintonville in WIAA Division 3 regional action.

Menominee Indian was the No. 10 seed, and the Truckers were No. 7.

Menominee Indian ended the year 0–14 in the Central Wisconsin East Conference and 1-16 overall.

Tri-County 12, Marion 7

Tri-County, the No. 8 seed in the Division 5 Sectional 2 WIAA playoff grouping, defeated No. 9 seed Marion 12-7.

Central Wisconsin Conference Championship

Wittenberg-Birnamwood golfers scored a 341 as they won the Central Wisconsin Conference Championship at Foxfire Golf Course in Waupaca.

Marion finished in fourth with a 370, and Bonduel was seventh with a 382.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Joey Seegmiller carded an 80, which tied him for the best score. Teammates and their scores were August Barke 82, George Seegmiller 87 and Owen Schultz with a 92. Nicholas Flak carded a 107.

Fitz wins gold at throwers invite

Coach Heinz Throwers Invitational

Shawano’s Matty Fitz captured first place in the the discus and shot put at the home meet. Madisyn Weinig finished second in the shot put and third in the discus.

For the boys, Drew Chelberg placed second in the discus, and Mason Theis was second int he shot put.

Dale Peterson Invitational

Menominee Indian athletes returned home with four gold medals and several others from an invite in Antigo.
