Winona State

Wittenberg-Birnamwood graduate and current Winona State sophomore Maddy Pietz claimed 11th place in the 200-meter dash preliminaries at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 28 and 29 in Mankato, Minnesota.

Pietz turned in a time of 25.39 seconds, missing out on the finals.

Bonduel 63

Menominee Indian 61

Seventh-seeded Bonduel escaped with a tight win over 10th-seeded Menominee Indian in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal playoff matchup on Tuesday in Bonduel. Bonduel outscored Menominee Indian 40-35 in the second half to overcome a three-point halftime deficit.

Cole Letter hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Bonduel on the offensive end. Carson Robaidek and Noah Beilfuss each added 12 points, with Beilfuss also hitting four triples.

WITTENBERG — The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls basketball team didn’t have a deep roster, relying primarily on its five starters and just a couple players off the bench. Freshman Reese Rogowski was a starter for the team.

Rogowski averaged about five points per game for Witt-Birn, which won a Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division title and advanced to a Division 3 regional final before being eliminated.

The freshman guard also was a strong defender for the team.

Wrestling: Witt-Birn’s Moegenburg ends career on podium

MADISON — Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestler Chad Moegenburg ended his career on the state podium after placing fifth in the Division 2 126-pound weight class at the 77th annual WIAA Individual Wrestling Championship Tournament, which ran Thursday through Saturday at the Kohl Center.

Junior teammate Wyatt Esker also made the podium, placing sixth in the 145 weight class.

Moegenburg posted a 3-2 record for his second-ever podium finish (he placed second in the D3 113 weight class as a sophomore).

Bonduel 71

Crivitz 52

Top-seeded Bonduel rolled to a Division 4 regional title win over fourth-seeded Crivitz on Saturday in Bonduel.

Allaina Robaidek and Kara Troxel each tallied 19 points for Bonduel, while Brenna Hertzfeldt had 11 and Kylie Hoffman 10.

Madison Kurey had five assists, while Troxel grabbed six rebounds. Hoffman had three steals.

Oakland City

Bowler graduate Reanne Kietlinski turned in a pair of strong performances to lead the Oakland City women's basketball team to a pair of wins over Southeastern Baptist College on Feb. 22 and 23.

Kietlinski totaled 16 points, two steals, two blocks, three assists and four rebounds in the team's 78-71 win on Feb. 23.

In the team's 89-73 win on Feb. 22, Kietlinski posted 13 points, seven assists, three steals, two blocks and two rebounds.

Wrestling: Bonduel’s Banker takes fourth at state

MADISON — Bonduel High School wrestler Isaac Banker claimed fourth place in the Division 3 195-pound weight class at the 77th annual WIAA Individual Wrestling Championship Tournament on Saturday at the Kohl Center.

Banker, a junior, posted a 1-1 record on Saturday, winning his consolation semifinal before losing in the third-place match.

Banker got a takedown in the first period of his consolation match against Mondovi senior Raith Bauer to grab the lead. Banker then pulled off a reversal before securing a pin at the 1 minute, 56 second mark of the match.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 67

Clintonville 65 (OT)

Abi Fraaza hit a shot at the buzzer to help third-seeded Wittenberg-Birnamwood take down sixth-seeded Clintonville in overtime of a Division 3 regional semifinal playoff game in Wittenberg. Fraaza took the inbound pass and drove the length of the court before knocking down the game-winning shot.

Wrestling: Three area schools represented on second day of state

MADISON — Wrestlers from Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Bonduel and Shawano took the mat for the second day of the 77th annual WIAA Individual Wrestling Championship Tournament on Friday at the Kohl Center.

Five of the six wrestlers performed well enough to qualify for one more day at the state tournament.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood

Wittenberg-Birnamwood senior Chad Moegenburg and junior Wyatt Esker each won their first Division 2 matches before losing in the semifinals at 126 and 145 pounds, respectively.

Denmark 48

Clintonville eased to a North Eastern Conference win over Denmark on Thursday in Denmark.

Aiden Polzin knocked down 10 shots to score 24 points for Clintonville. Cam Mauel and Presley Rosenow each tallied 10 points, while Brock Smejkal had eight and Nathan Morse seven.

Clintonville outscored Denmark 37-24 in the second half to pull away.
