Green Bay trying to avoid slip up

For a second straight week, the Green Bay Packers will take on an opponent with just one win.

After bouncing back from their first loss by taking care of the Houston Texans, the Packers return to Lambeau Field for an NFC North battle with the 1-5 Minnesota Vikings, a team the Packers dismantled back in week one.

After a slow start in the season opener in which Green Bay trailed 7-3 after a quarter, the Packers erupted for 19 second-quarter points and eventually led by 19 before easing to a 43-34 win.

The Adams’ show

In the Green Bay Packers’ week one victory at the Minnesota Vikings, Davante Adams stole the show. Facing a revamped cast of cornerbacks, Adams tied Don Hutson’s franchise record with 14 receptions, which he turned into 156 yards and two touchdowns in a 43-34 victory.

Adams was at it again in last week’s victory at Houston with 13 receptions for a career-high 196 yards and two touchdowns. It was the most receiving yards by any player in the league this season, though it was eclipsed by Seattle’s Tyler Lockett in the Sunday night game.

Witt-Birn's Metropulos, Clintonville's Foth win 2 events each at conference girls swim meet

Wittenberg-Birnamwood's McKenna Metropulos and Clintonville's Brianna Foth each won a pair of individual events during the Bay Conference Championships on Thursday.

Shawano placed third in the conference, while Witt-Birn was fifth and Clintonville sixth.

The conference meet was unlike any before it, as it was split into two venues. Clintonville hosted Witt-Birn and Shawano, while Seymour hosted Marinette and New London to round out the conference.

Brewers decline $15 million 2021 option on Ryan Braun

The Milwaukee Brewers have declined to exercise a $15 million mutual 2021 option on veteran outfielder Ryan Braun as the franchise’s career home run leader ponders whether to continue playing.

Braun is due a $4 million buyout.

The 37-year-old often said this year that this might be his final season. He has spent his entire career in Milwaukee and has a franchise-record 352 career home runs.

Wisconsin football pauses team activities

The Wisconsin football team will pause all team-related activities for at least seven days due to an elevated number of COVID-19 cases within the Badgers program.

The team’s scheduled game against Nebraska on Saturday will not be played.

The joint decision to pause football activities and cancel Saturday’s game was made by Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez and UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, in consultation with the Big Ten Conference. The game will not be rescheduled.

Wisconsin issues statement amid reports Mertz tests positive

Wisconsin says nobody who played in the season opener Friday night tested positive for COVID-19 or reported having any symptoms beforehand, amid weekend reports that quarterback Graham Mertz has tested positive.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Wisconsin State Journal reported Mertz would be taking a second test to determine whether his first test was a false positive. The Journal-Sentinel reported Mertz’s positive test came Saturday, one day after the Badgers’ 45-7 home victory over Illinois.

Milwaukee Brewers rookie Devin Williams was named the winner of the 2020 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award, Major League Baseball and presenting sponsor The Hartford announced Saturday.

Williams became the first rookie and the first pitcher without a save ever to earn Hoffman Award.
