Packers announce 2021 schedule

The Green Bay Packers’ 2021 NFL schedule will feature 17 regular-season games and three preseason games. It is highlighted by five prime-time contests (subject to flexible scheduling) on the original schedule for the eighth straight year (2014-21) and 10 games against 2020 playoff teams.

The Packers will open the season at the New Orleans Saints, marking the third straight year and the seventh time in the last nine seasons Green Bay has started the season on the road.

Packers sign QB Bortles

The Green Bay Packers have signed QB Blake Bortles, General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced May 13.

Bortles, a 6-foot-5, 236-pound seventh-year player, was originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round (No. 3 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of the University of Central Florida.

After five seasons with the Jaguars (2014-18), he spent the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Rams and in 2020 he spent some time on the active roster and practice squad of the Denver Broncos before re-joining the Rams prior to week 17.

Brewers, Bucks both raising fan capacity to 50%

The Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks are both bringing more fans back into their buildings as the coronavirus crisis ebbs.

The clubs announced separately on May 11 that they will raise their fan capacity limits to 50%. The Brewers will do it at American Family Field starting May 15. The Bucks will do it for the upcoming NBA playoffs at Fiserv Forum.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the two teams had worked with city health officials for their previous limits — 25% for the Brewers and almost 18% for the Bucks.

Shawano boys, girls win home track invitational

The Shawano Community High School boys and girls track teams each cruised to first-place finishes at the Ryan Jozwiak Memorial Track Invitational on May 11 in Shawano.

The Shawano boys racked up 240 points, well ahead of second-place finishing Seymour (146.5). The Shawano girls accumulated 201.5 points, with Antigo (140.5) in second.

Shawano boys tennis team sweeps Green Bay West

The Shawano Community High School boys tennis team won all four of the flights played to sweep Green Bay West in a Bay Conference match May 11 in Shawano.

Three of the flights played were singles matchups. Camden Kroll (No. 1), Leo Liu (No. 2) and Joe Mente (No. 3) earned wins for Shawano, while Carson Cummings took the No. 4 singles match by forfeit.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood topped Bonduel in a May 11 Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division battle in Wittenberg.

Jasmin Duranceau was the hero for Witt-Birn, driving in the game's lone run in the fourth inning and also earning the win in the circle. Duranceau struck out four batters and allowed just three hits while walking none.

McKenna Foster scored for Witt-Birn, which had five hits.

Witt-Birn girls edge Manawa to win home track and field invite

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls track and field team topped Manawa by one point to win the May 10 Wittenberg-Birnamwood Invite in Wittenberg.

The Witt-Birn girls accumulated 161 points to Manawa's 160. Gresham/Bowler took fourth with 42 points, while Tigerton tallied 39 points to take fifth. Marion scored three points and finished eighth.

On the boys side, Manawa won with 181 points. Witt-Birn (110.5) came in second, with Gresham/Bowler (14) in fifth.

Witt-Birn boys golf team wins another CWC meet

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School boys golf team placed first at a Central Wisconsin Conference meet at Bullseye Country Club on May 10 in Wisconsin Rapids.

Witt-Birn posted a team score of 347, well ahead of second-place finishing Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (373). Bonduel (399) claimed fifth, with Marion (466) in eighth and Menominee Indian/Gresham (468) in ninth.

All five of Witt-Birn's varsity golfers finished within five shots of each other. Calvin Scheurer led the way with an 18-hole round of 85.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood eased to a Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division victory over Menominee Indian on May 10 in Wittenberg. The Chargers scored four runs in the first inning and seven more in the second to build a comfortable lead.

Austin Rekow had three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored for Witt-Birn, while Ian Salvesen and Austin Worzalla drove in two runs each. Salvesen scored three runs, while Bryce Zoromski crossed the plate twice.
