Max Beyer knocked down three 3-pointers and led Lena with 15 points. Simon Gard added nine points.

Suring dropped a M&O clash to Oneida Nation on a last-second shot on Thursday in Oneida.

Suring knocked off Lena in a low-scoring Marinette & Oconto Conference battle on Tuesday in Suring.

Bryce Losurdo led Suring by scoring 12 points. Ethan Hischke chipped in eight points, while Dequez Sepulveda and Jayden Geniesse each contributed seven points.

WRESTLING

Lena goes 2-0 at triangular

Lena topped Menominee (Mich.) 51-24 and Oconto 36-12 at a triangular on Tuesday in Lena.

OCONTO FALLS — Every basketball team loves to have outside shooters, but another big key to the success of a basketball team is having a post player who can score in the paint and defend the rim. Zach Parsons serves as Oconto Falls’ big man.

Parsons is a nice compliment to the Panthers’ outside shooters, doing almost all of his work on offense near the basket. On defense, Parsons is able to alter shots and pull in several rebounds with his tall frame and long arms.

Oconto Falls trio wins Packers halftime game

GREEN BAY — The Oconto Falls High School trio of Joey Walters, Jarod Parsons and Mitchell Manns won the High School Quarterback Challenge Championship during halftime of the Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks NFC Divisional Round playoff game Sunday.

Teams competing had a quarterback try to throw the farthest successful pass in two attempts. For Oconto Falls, Walters threw passes to Manns and Parsons.

Boys Basketball: Gillett powers past Lena in M&O clash

GILLETT — The senior-led Gillett High School boys basketball team proved to be too much to handle for an inexperienced Lena squad, with the hosting Tigers earning a 76-38 Marinette & Oconto Conference victory on Friday.

Gillett used a balanced offensive attack and aggressive on-ball defensive approach to get the job done.

Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by senior Logan Block’s 28 points. Freshman Derek Block hit four 3-pointers while tallying 18 points, while seniors Anthony Carroll and Elijah Framnes provided 13 points each.

Oconto Falls graduates Aaron and Emily Gonnering each competed in multiple events for the St. Norbert track and field team at the Green Knight Duel on Jan. 10 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Aaron Gonnering placed eighth in the 200-meter dash (25.17 seconds) and came in ninth in the 300 hurdles (40.06).

Emily Gonnering finished 10th in the shot put (6.8 meters) and 11th in the weight throw (8.00).

Gillett powered past an undermanned Lena squad in a Marinette & Oconto Conference matchup on Friday in Gillett. Gillett used a 31-8 run to end the first half to take a 40-15 lead at the break.

Logan Block was one of four Gillett players to score over 10 points, leading the team with 28 points. Derek Block contributed 18 points, while Anthony Carroll and Elijah Framnes tallied 13 points each.

Gillett picked up a big Marinette & Oconto Conference victory over Crivitz on Thursday in Gillett.

Aubrey DeBauch and Karissa Schaal scored 14 points each to lead Gillett on offense. Camryn Long chipped in six points.

The Tigers outscored the Wolverines 34-26 in the second half to overcome a two-point halftime deficit.

Gillett eased to a nonconference home win over Gibraltar on Tuesday.

Aubrey DeBauch scored 21 points to lead Gillett on offense. Karissa Schaal wasn’t far behind, tallying 19 points. Camryn Long provided 13 points.

Gillett outscored Gibraltar 33-21 in the second half to seal up the victory.

Boys Basketball: Oconto Falls pulls away from Marinette

OCONTO FALLS — The Oconto Falls High School boys basketball team used a run in the latter portion of the second half to pull away from a pesky Marinette squad to earn its second North Eastern Conference victory of the season on Monday.

Leading 69-57 with a little over three minutes to play, Oconto Falls delivered the knockout blow with an 11-0 run to create an insurmountable lead.
