Too late I found that Seth Pevey’s “Casket Girls” was his fourth in the Herbert and Melancon series of mystery thrillers. That made it a little confusing, but very interesting.

Casket girls got their name from a mispronunciation of their little suitcases – cassettes. They were brought to New Orleans as potential brides.

Felix Herbert is wealthy but is a private detective. David Melancon is a retired NOLA police detective. Fearing he’ll end up like so many retired officers, David has joined Felix’s firm.

While surfing Infosoup I came across “Dinosaur Lake” by Kathryn Meyer Griffith. What kid didn’t want to be an archaeologist?

The dreary weather sent me into my “happy places” reading selections. “Beachfront Bakery” by Fiona Grace fit my needs. “A Killer Cupcake” is book one of her series.

Ali earned her doctorate in pastry science, then studied under one of the best pastry chefs in the world. Finally she lands a job at L.A.’s exclusive French restaurant Eclairs, but instead of making delicate pastries, Ali only creates batch after batch of crème brulee.

This week I’m afraid that this week’s book falls into the “don’t bother” category.

“Clean Kill” by Adam Nicholls is book one in his Bloodline series. I selected it with high hopes but it didn’t take many pages to make me frustrated and confused.
