Encouraging Indigenous children to embrace their culture and heritage is vital to the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.
So, when the Menominee 4-H Club children themselves requested a chance to learn the traditional dancing and singing of the Menominee, Sofie Cloud got the ball rolling.
Cloud, the UW-Extension Menominee County/Nation 4-H youth development educator, started powwow singing and dancing practice nights on four consecutive Wednesdays in June.

Things changed, though, and she and her husband, Jay, along with their three sons, milk 650 cows and own 565 acres of land in the Town of Maple Grove, just a stone’s throw from Pulaski.
Shawano youth Jaden Zittlow set up a stand and sold lemonade from his house to raise money and awareness for the Shawano County Humane Society.
The day’s lemonade stand was very successful, bringing in well over $400. According to his family, this brings the total amount raised this year to $550 so far.
With a table and a homemade sign set up in front of his house, Zittlow sold lemonade and a special flavored beverage such as watermelon or blue razz for $1. He also sold homemade bracelets for $2 to raise funds.
While I was out working in the yard yesterday, I saw a Karner blue butterfly. What a thrill. The last one I saw was in 2016 as I hiked near Glockie Lake, a challenging six-mile segment of the “Hundred Miles for a Hundred Years” Townsend Centennial Walk. I remember stopping to watch this remarkable creature hover and flutter its delicate one-inch powder blue wings right in front of me. I was so entranced I almost got hit by a passing pickup truck.

An invitation to the world-renowned Rose Parade is quite an honor for any music program, particularly from a small rural community such as Pulaski.
As a part of the experience, the Pulaski community will host the 2024 Pasadena Tournament of Roses president and leading lady, Alex and Paula Aghajanian, as well as the executive vice president and spouse, Ed and Lisa Morales. They will come to town to get to know the students, families, community and culture, as well as to help the school to fundraise for its big trip to Pasadena, California.

A trail cam set up in our woods sends images immediately to my husband’s cell. It seems the woodland natives meander in the wee hours as more often we discover prowlers active when we sleep.
Our woods not only provides wood to heat our farmhouse, but deer and turkeys for food, sap from our maples, the occasional berry pick and a trail to ride our four wheeler. We also get a kick out of watching all kinds of nature’s animals mosey past our trail cam from the comfort of our living room.
June is Invasive Species Awareness Month and a great time to become familiar with invasive species that may be found in your yard and garden, as well as our area woodlands, parks and wild places.
Learning to identify invasive species, as well as ways to help control their spread is important for property owners and gardeners. Once an invasive species takes hold, it becomes more and more difficult to remove or eradicate.
