As we prepare to embark on another exciting school year, I often think about the profound impact the school experience has on a child’s overall growth and development. For me, it is top priority to create a culture that supports all that we as parents and district residents want for our children.

Fiona Red debut is a real page turner

I had high hopes for “Let Her Go” by Blake Pierce, and I wasn’t disappointed. It is subtitled as a “Fiona Red FBI Mystery,” but we don’t meet Fiona right away.

The story opens in Forest Park in Portland, Oregon. A young woman has just been accosted by her date, so she knees him and runs for her life. In her headlong dash, she trips over a body.

Bubble tea, coffee shop opens in Lena

A coffee shop featuring hot and cold specialty coffee, bubble tea, and novelty drinks is now open in Lena.

Lyllu’s Café (pronounced LEE-Lu’s) is open from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week in the former bakery at 110 E. Main St., Lena.

Mursau selected to head Wisconsin Paper Caucus

The Wisconsin Paper Council has announced a new Legislative leadership team for the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus, and Rep. Jeff Mursau, who represents the 36th Assembly District, has been named the Assembly chairman for the caucus.

Laughlin trims at her business every day

Gina Laughlin has been in the business of cutting hair for almost 20 years, and for the past few years, she has been the owner and only stylist at Bonduel Barbershop.

Bonduel Barbershop offers haircuts for men and children, straight razor shaves and waxing.

Laughlin’s interest in cutting hair began very young.

In tears, I bent down and, holding her hand, whispered in my sister’s ear how much I loved her, will miss her, that she was always there for me and was my best friend and how I am releasing her into the arms of Jesus. This isn’t a goodbye; it’s an “until we meet again.” Shortly after, close to 7 on the morning of June 10, the angels slipped her away from us.

Legacy Star 406th barn quilt created for Shawano County

Shawano County’s 406th barn quilt, called Legacy Star, is now on display on a barn at N4807 Short Road, Krakow.

The quilt has been sponsored by Josh and Debby Bierhals, who live on the farm that is owned by Debby’s parents, Walter Gene and Janet Bohm, who live about a mile away on Nichols Drive.

Grant to help with school security kits

Capital Credit Union recently awarded $100,000 to 11 local fire, police, and EMS organizations through its Elevate Communities program, which included the Oconto Falls Police Department.

Oconto Falls received funding for school security and trauma kits.

Bellin Health plans triathlon in Oconto

Bellin Health Oconto Fitness will welcome children 3-14 to swim, bike and run Aug. 13 during the inaugural Bellin Health Fitness Kids Triathlon.

With four different courses suitable for every age and skill level, the event is designed to offer an enjoyable way for kids to get active, said Kasey Eisch-Ermis, Bellin Fitness team facilitator and personal trainer.
